Care For Baby James

Donation protected
I never imagined that I would have to ask strangers for their help in this way.  But, when my only child’s recovery depends on it, I have no other choice.  On December 24th, 2017 my son James, eight months old, became ill. On Christmas Day I took him to the emergency room for high fever and vomiting.  Initially, doctors considered his vomiting and fever to be caused by a virus. They thought he would recover with a fever reducer and Pedialyte. Two days later, my baby’s health took a turn for the worse.  On December 27th, I rushed him to the emergency room where he was admitted for dehydration and observation.

The next day, Thursday, December 28th, my baby began to have seizures and was placed in ICU. Doctors discovered that my baby boy had brain swelling.  Further examination showed that my baby had a blockage in the brain.  There was a cyst in my baby’s brain and it was causing the brain swelling.  My son was scheduled for brain surgery the next day, Friday, December 28th.  Doctors found the cyst and were able to remove 90% of it. I am now in the hospital with my baby boy helping as much as I can with the recovery process.

I work as a teacher for a living and I am due back to work on January 2nd, 2018.  I have used all of my sick days for pregnancy leave and medical appointments. I am now in the negative range which means I actually owe days.  I am praying that my son will heal quickly and we can go home and live our normal lives.  However, my son’s recovery will require that I stay by his side until doctors clear him for return to daycare.  I will not be able to do this, even on a part time basis unless I can secure the funds I will be docked for missing days at work.  My health insurance will only cover medical expenses, for the most part, but will not cover any disability/convalescence for my child. I have very limited child care options. At the present moment, I only have one relative who can help me care for my son on a part time basis. This first week of January I will not be able to report for work because my baby will hopefully be making the transition from the hospital to home. Each day I am out, a day’s pay will be deducted from my paycheck.  I will have to take an unpaid short term medical leave of approximately eight weeks or more through FMLA in order to help my son recover.

As a first time mother, I don’t know what else to do at this point but humbly ask strangers for a helping hand so I can help my eight-month old son recover from his brain surgery and keep me together through your prayers. The funds you so generously provide will go toward covering any out of pocket medical expenses that may pop up as well as childcare assistance, shelter and essential bill expenses.

We are grateful and thankful from the bottom of our hearts for any donation offered.

In gratitude,
Sylvia (Asimoula) and Baby James
