 Care Coverage for Lois Giardino

Hello -- my name is Jason Giardino, and I am asking for your help to assist my mother, Lois Giardino. Lois is reaching her final days, and we need your help to make sure that she receives necessary care during a very difficult transition time.

Lois has been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for several years now. There are probably very few people reading this that have not been touched by the pain of this disease in one way or another, either directly via a family member or perhaps via a friend who cares for someone with Alzheimer's. Many of you also probably know that it is incredibly expensive to care for someone who's memory and mental ability is ravaged by dementia.

For the past few years, myself and our dearest friends and family have worked tirelessly to make sure that Lois would have the necessary care to manage the debilitating effects of the disease. We have always known that in time, it would be necessary to apply for medicaid in order to continue with the services that she requires.

In the past few months, Lois's condition has taken a rapid decline, and it has been difficult to keep up with the changes, emotionally and financially. While she remains in good spirits, she spends most of her time in bed due to increasing weakness in her muscles. She was recently accepted into hospice care, and while they provide a miriad of incredible services, there are still significant private costs to pay for her housing, food, nursing, cleaning, and day-to-day care.

Unfortunately, Lois's current assisted living home can no longer provide the level of care that she needs, and we will be moving her into a private adult care home capable of giving her the attention necessary in her twilight days. Also unfortunately, this comes at a precarious time as she is running out of personal funds to cover these expenses.

The absolute minimum cost for staying in an adult care home is about $3,500 per month, and that does not include the additional (and significant) monthly charges needed for her personal care, prescription co-pays, and other routine expenses.

Applying for medicaid is not a speedy process, and we will likely need at least 45 days or longer for everything to go through. I have done everything I can to support my mother financially, emotionally, and with my time and labor, but we still need some help. We're looking to raise some money to help bridge the gap betwee private pay and receiving medicaid services. With these funds, we'll be able to ensure that Lois has continuity of care during this incredibly challenging transition.

If you knew my mother during her best years, you will know that she was one of the most kind, generous, hilarious, and amicable people you would ever want to meet. Growing up, I could not have asked for a better mother, who supported and cared for me during the best times and the worst times, including surviving breast cancer not once but twice.

If you only know me and haven't had an opportunity to meet my mom, I can only hope that I have been a positive influence in your life, and that so much of my character was directly influenced by this remarkable woman.

And if you have somehow found yourself here and are a stanger, then I truly thank you for your generous spirit, and I promise I will pay your generosity forward.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your generosity. While my mom may not be able to fully understand her current situation, I know that she would be touched beyond belief for every penny that is donated.
