Care and Support for Staunch Community Advocate

Donation protected
Lorna Munro is a Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi activist, writer, podcaster and community care worker currently residing on unceded Gadigal Land. She has spent her entire life advocating and fighting for First Nations justice and the needs of her community and is now in a place where she needs some care herself.

Lorna has a beautiful boy with autism who needs assistive technology and has recently become the primary carer for her nephews. All the kids are in need of school supplies and winter clothing. Lorna is the sole supporter of this family and needs support so she can focus on caring for herself and ensure she can continue to provide for her family and community.

Lorna is going through hardships and needs support to continue paying day to day bills as well as funding self-care and childcare essentials so she can sustainably continue her activism and family/community care responsibilities.

Specifically, we are seeking financial assistance with the following:
- Winter clothes & shoes
- School supplies
- House repairs
- Bills
- Groceries
- Assisted speech access tools
- a trip back to country
- Car rego
- Fund setting up of respite

Lorna has never been one to ask for financial assistance, this fundraiser was started with Lorna’s consent but not initiated by her. As community members who have witnessed her work and just how much she has done and continues to do for us all, we’re hoping this can be an opportunity for broader communities to pay it back.

Being a staunch community care worker and advocate takes a lot of time and energy and, as many of us know, often leads to burnout. It is vital to support our advocates to be able to take genuine care of themselves, whether that looks like a face mask in the bath or a trip back to country. These are necessary tools for sustaining engagement and active participation in the fight.

If you’ve been looking for ways to support grassroots FN causes, this is your opportunity to give back to a member of community who contributes endless time and energy towards the fight to decolonise.
