Feminine Hygine Care for Farmworking Women

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Flor and I am the founder of Celebration Nation, a nonprofit that has established a Food Bank for Farmworkers Program across the state of California. Every weekend we are in different farm working locations, filling the gap to food insecurity amongst farm working families. We directly serve over 4,000 farmworkers every month, with the majority being women farmworkers looking to feed their children.

Occasionally, we will get some women's hygiene products through individual donors or smaller partner agencies who might have some extras they can donate to our cause, but we never seem to have enough to cater to all the farmworker women that come to us every month.

We think it's time to change that. We think it's the right thing to do to cater to and care for the migrant women that put food on our tables. It's time to pay attention to the women who face the inequalities of being a farmworker ( pesticide exposure, lack of protection, low wages, etc. ) on top of the inequalities faced as a woman of color.

It's time for empowerment through awareness. Many farm working women constantly have to figure out how to feed their family, and when the kids are hungry, there is no room on the list of needs for monthly menstrual products. Not only do these women face hunger issues, but also human health issues of not being able to afford basic necessities required to work comfortably while bleeding.

For Women's History Month this month, we have launched a campaign called SHE SE PUEDE, a 2 week campaign aimed at empowering farm working women by providing items such as feminine hygiene products, new and gently used clothing/shoes, all while providing resources and services to these women at our distributions, such as resources on immigration, mental health, domestic violence, nutrition and sex education.

We are asking the community to help us serve these essential women by donating items, donating funds, volunteering and simply sharing to bring awareness and support.

To sum things up, here's the items we need :

  • tampons
  • pads
  • menstrual cups
  • new under-ware

We are also requesting new and gently used women's clothing/items such as :

  • shirts
  • pants
  • sweaters
  • dresses
  • bras
  • shoes
  • accessories

All sizes are welcomed.
*All donated clothing/shoes will be distributed in a boutique style "shopping spree" ( on hangers/racks/ shelves) where women can take the time to pick out the items they like for themselves and feel appreciated and celebrated. The boutique-style clothing and hygiene product distribution will be set up next to the Food Bank for Farmworkers distribution during regular dates and times.

Thank you for doing your part and giving thanks to the unsung heroic women of the nation. These women feed the nation, and its our responsibility to ensure their wellness as they have always ensured food on our tables through their exploited labor. These hardworking women shouldn't have to pick between feeding their children or having the proper feminine care for themselves. Let's make a difference in the lives of these women, mothers, sisters, daughters, who are also our essential farmworkers and responsible for keeping food on our tables. Let's uplift these women, empower these women, care for these women, support these women, hear these women, see these women, let's be there for these women.

SHE SE PUEDE!! TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
