Cardinal Courtyard Renovation

Please help us make our plans a reality!

We are hoping to create an outdoor learning environment for our students. This space was once intended to be a completed area that never developed as our building infrastructure was created around it. This space would help our teachers and students meet the Next Generation Science Standards that require a three-dimensional approach to K–12 science instruction.

By allowing students to learn in an outdoor classroom with natural resources within reach, we hope to inspire students and also to empower educators, administrators, and even our community to see science as a real-world subject that affects our everyday lives and that of our future. This beautiful space would also allow our students with emotional and/or behavioral disorders an atmosphere to wind down, so that they can return to the traditional classroom and excel.

This outdoor classroom will serve more than just science teachers, too! Teachers have plans to teach language for the purpose of descriptive writing and using parts of speech.  Math classes can also take measurements, do real-world geometry application, and complete data collection.  In the middle and high schools, we have classes that can use this area to practice agronomy, display woodworking projects, such as bird houses, display outdoor art from art classes, and even explore the art of birdwatching and identification skills. These are just a few examples of how our students would utilize this area to meet our district goals and standards.

The location is convenient for all students to use within minutes.  Our staff has come up with many desired elements that would not only enhance this area, but also help to meet our above stated goals.  Some of these elements include: having a place and resources to teach and learn standards of Next Generation science, creating a quiet reading area for students K-12,  location for FFA students to meet some specific goals of program, possible location for local organizations to collaborate and have scheduled ceremonies (FFA, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, 4-H, Clover Buds are just a few examples).

Please consider helping us improve our school and provide new resources to our students!

All of our donors will be recognized on a sign in the finished courtyard. Donor levels are as follows:
White Level - $100
Red Level - $250
Cardinal Pride - $500+

Thanks to the Greater Madison County Community Foundation, we received a grant that allowed us to start the ground work of this project. In addition, the Living Roadway Trust Fund allowed us to acquire our courtyard design, and will let us purchase plants, mulch, and signage.

We have currently raised $48,000, but our overall plans are estimated to cost around $75,000
