Car Repairs for a Hardworking Mama!

Hi Beautiful Community,

This morning around 11:05 while traveling Northbound on 880 right before the 23rd Ave exit a car came swerving out of nowhere across all four lanes of traffic, making a complete circle and then smacking the wall (it’s what stopped her car, but the impact was so great that the car bounced off the wall and landed tail end in lane 4.)

A young lady frantically exited the vehicle (my boo and I as well as another gentleman stopped to make sure she was okay) pleading for us to help her but visibly shaken. It’s a miracle she wasn’t struck by another vehicle in the moment she lost control. My dude drove her car off the freeway to a safe location (she doesn’t have AAA) and she hopped in the car with me to follow him so that we could park and wait for her parents with her.

As we waited I just kept repeating to her “you are covered, you are covered, you are covered.” I still cannot believe that what we watched happen in front of our eyes did not result in any physical harm to this beautiful young lady.

I’m writing to y'all because the driver of the semi truck kept going. He had to have seen the accident he caused if nothing else in his rearview mirror, but he kept going.

When her mother arrived and ensured her babygirl was not physically hurt, they began to discuss repairing the car and how she just bought the car two weeks ago and was on the way to the shop for some smaller repairs this morning when the accident occurred.

I feel compelled to see if our community can come together and get some funds for this beautiful soul. Her name is Marie (my oldest daughter’s name) and she’s a hardworking 24-year-old mother. She’s a twin. (How cool!) She just got her cosmetology license and has big goals! She most definitely needs a working vehicle. If we gather enough to repair her car, that’s amazing! I’ve seen some miracles happen with social media and the compassion of humanity, though, so I’m trying to see if we can get sis a whole new car.

She just wrote me the most heartfelt text and asked me to meet her so she could give me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. She did that after such a terrifying life event happened to her and in the middle of coordinating her next necessary steps to get her car back on the road. She and I bonded today. Her mom told me she just lost her little cousin and they just buried him last week. I just lost my baby cousin to gun violence and buried her a week ago also.

It’s hard to see light in the face of compounding tragedy. I know. I’ve been struggling. Trying to go to work, keep a smile, be a good mom, earn for my family, enrich my children and add magic to the environment around me even when sometimes, frankly, I have very little magic within. When my cousin died last month the word that came to me and has been stuck within me ever since is PURPOSE.

Marie kept looking at her car and crying and talking about her next steps because she is a fighter. She knows she has a little boy to succeed for and that her car will help her do that. This feels like such a major setback to her because all she did was swerve out of the way of a semi to SAVE HER LIFE and now her vehicle has been severely wrecked.

We talked about how that was a great problem to have because this could have ended with a funeral. She could have lost her life. This is a minor setback for a major comeback, but I need a little help.

I want to see her win.
