I am hoping to raise $6,000 for a car for a single mother, the victim of domestic violence, who has a 6 year old special needs son and a 9 month old daughter I met her through the tutoring I do for English as a Second Language. She is from Uzbekistan. The domestic violence shelter found her housing two miles from town, but public transportation only comes to that area 2-3 times a day. She desperately needs to find a job. If she gets a job she needs to get the children to day-care. The $6,000 would buy a “decent” car and cover tax, license and insurance for a year. Financing isn't an option as she has no credit and we all know if she did get some it would be at outrageous interest rates. She was a PCP in her home country, but the credentials don’t “carry” here for a similar position without some licensing. . She has been accepted for the LPN program in the fall (with some credit given for her previous degree). Because she and her son have only been in this country for 3 years she is not eligible for any financial help, including SNAP benefits for the two of them. Her daughter receives some SNAP benefits.
