As many of you may know, Sonny’s car has stopped working. As a result, he is on foot again. This is very hard on him; it’s been especially difficult this summer with all of the smoke from the wildfires as he has asthma. A few weeks ago, while waking around Browning, he fell and hurt his toe. The injury developed into gangrene and was a very serious infection. Luckily, he was on it and the hospital was able to remove the infection with antibiotics and regular checkups.
Now, winter is beginning to get close and the reality of Sonny walking around the streets of Browning in the winter on ice is very disconcerting. He will be turning 61 this year and he needs to have good reliable wheels.
Regardless of whether or not Sonny has a car, he will keep moving. His thumbs have taken him all across the state and the U.S., but this was in his younger days. Telling him to stay home in the heat or the cold doesn’t do any good - he will just go where he wants anyhow. Once, Deena, found Sonny asleep in the ditch along highway 2 in the middle of winter at 20 degrees!
A car for Sonny is much more than just a car for Sonny. When he has a car, he helps so many people in Browning who are without wheels. He takes people to the grocery store, doctor appointments, and offices. He even runs a small taxi service to help people out in town who need rides. It also allows him to participate in the spiritual activities of the wider community. He can come to sweat and he can go and pick smudges and medicines.
Any amount will help us reach our goal of $3000. As of now, we have $240 raised. We are very certain we can find a good used car which will last for a few years in that price range. Truly, anything helps - $10, $20, $500. Whatever you can do in your budget to help get Sonny back on the road is greatly appreciated.
