Captain Bill Pinkney Memorial Celebration

Captain Bill Pinkney became world renown when he completed his solo sail around the world via the 5 Great Capes in 1992; making him the first Black Man to accomplish this challenging voyage alone. Among his many other accomplishments, he was the first Captain of the replica freedom revolt ship Amistad, and was also inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame.

On August 31, 2023 Captain Pinkney completed his life's journey here on earth.
In honor of a man who did so much to inspire so many to reach for their dreams, a memorial celebration will be held at the DuSable Museum in Chicago on November 4, 2023 at 11:00AM. The celebration will be hosted by the
"Friends of Captain Bill Pinkney Committee". This extraordinary event will highlight the life of this remarkable man with a video presentation, fun and exciting stories told by friends and fellow sailors, remarks by public figures and a heart touching commentary by his wife, Migdalia. However, this will not be all...following Captain Pinkney's wish to have his home-going to be just as he lived his and uplifting, this celebration will be just that! After the service, there will be a live band, food, beverages and the opportunity for friends and fellow sailors to mingle, chat, laugh and share memories...just as Captain Bill wanted.

Please help us make this a wonderful celebration in remembrance of Captain Pinkney's Life and Legacy by making a donation to help cover the cost of the event; any amount will be greatly appreciated.
