Support The CAPO Center Launch (Jail Guitar Doors)

Tax deductible

“The biggest lesson I learned at CAPO is that I have the ability to control my reactions. I can’t control situations, but I can control how I react to them, especially bad situations. Ultimately, that goes into everything I do in life. It's about being positive."  — The C.A.P.O. Center student

In October of 2019, Jail Guitar Doors took an ambitious step and began renting a small recording studio to provide the graduates of our classes in the juvenile halls, probation camps, and parks and recreation centers throughout Los Angeles County the opportunity to continue their music education. We dubbed the program C.A.P.O. (Community Arts Programming & Outreach) and made the commitment to show up for system-impacted youth and their communities by offering mentorship and scholarships for songwriting, recording, and music production classes.

What started with two students has evolved into a holistic and comprehensive program approach — not only to music education and re-entry for young and old alike — but also as a diversion to the negative choices that regularly impact the lives of our youth and their families. We envision a future where ALL of the young men and women are offered an opportunity to fulfill their potential and realize their dreams.

Cut to today. We’ve doubled down on our dream by breaking ground on a state-of-the-art recording studio, computer learning lab, and a gallery space: The C.A.P.O. Center at Jail Guitar Doors! We secured initial funding for the project, but the pandemic took its toll and has delayed a significant portion of these funds. We announce today a matching challenge of $75,000 on the table and we simply cannot do it without the support of our incredible community. This is where YOU come in!

We need your support, large or small, to match the $75,000 to complete the build-out and to begin workshops in-house. To serve a wider demographic of youth, we are including computer animation, digital design, writing, filmmaking, marketing, music licensing, and artist management in our curriculum.

Please support us by donating and sharing this campaign.

One in every six jobs in Los Angeles are tied to the Entertainment Industry in some capacity, so this is the perfect city for our training center. The C.A.P.O. Center will be a place where under-served, system-impacted youth and young adults will have access to resources they need to express their creative vision, find mentorship, and realize a pathway to employment.

Help us make our C.A.P.O. Center dream their reality by donating in any amount today! Your donation is proof positive that education, mentorship, and a path to employment in the arts is not only vital but can truly be successful. We are grateful for whatever support you can provide and wish you nothing but peace and prosperity, JGD-USA
