Mayflower 400th Anniversary

Let us introduce ourselves. We are a fun, diverse, multi-talented, energetic, socially conscious group of women spanning the generations. We are the Cape Cod DAR!

Founded in 1890, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer service organization dedicated to supporting American patriotism, historic and cultural preservation and restoration, family history and genealogy, and educational initiatives, particularly our Good Citizen and Scholarship Award, now in its 85th year.

Most of DAR’s community service is undertaken at the grassroots level – local chapters assisting local projects. As we approach 2020, communities across Cape Cod are preparing to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims at Provincetown and the establishment of the Pilgrim colony at Plymouth. That’s where we come in.

Cape Cod’s historical organizations are committed to interpreting and sharing the story of the Pilgrims and the Native Wampanoag people, to displaying artifacts and preserving significant local sites associated with the historic 400th anniversary.

Over the next year, the Captain Joshua Gray-Jonathan Hatch Chapter will continue its grassroots community outreach in a unique way with an initiative to raise funds – 100% of which will be donated – to assist Cape Cod organizations undertaking 2020 exhibitions, preservation projects and educational programs.

DAR is committed to ensuring that the smaller commemoration events and projects – those that may not have the attention of or full funding from other sources – have the means to participate in this historic, once-in-a-lifetime anniversary. It will be an opportunity to “dust off” some history and make it available for years to come.

Your help will ensure that the thousands who will descend on Cape Cod in 2020 will be treated to all the history and natural beauty that our charming towns have to offer.
