Canned Laughs: A Documentary Short

Hello world! My name is Abby Rosen and with the help of my friend Art Braeburn for my final thesis at Loyola Marymount, I'm continuing my work as a documentary filmmaker and making a fifteen-minute short following the work of my comedic inspiration and owner of the LA School of Comedy, Sunda Croonquist. Sunda has owned LA School of Comedy since 2008, fostering the comedic talent of anyone who walks through its doors. From ex-convicts to professors to stay-at-home dads, Sunda is committed to her philosophy that anyone and everyone can be funny. As a seasoned comedian herself, her ability to draw humor from her own experiences—growing up as a Swedish-Black Jew with a Hindu name in an Irish Catholic school—has made her a compelling storyteller with a distinctive voice that deserves a spot on the big screen.

Now, as a regular at LA School of Comedy and a senior film production student, this documentary gives me an opportunity to mesh my passions into one cohesive project. The money raised will help us broke college kids with equipment rental, catering services for the crew, and a special event with Sunda herself!
