K-9s for the Community

The Rothschild Police Department is partnering with Forrest Goetsch Charities, Inc., and K-tech Charities, Inc., to purchase two canines for the Rothschild Police Department, which will be part of the “K-9’s for the Community Program”.
Both Forrest Goetsch Charities, Inc., and K-tech Charities, Inc., have agreed to purchase the canines as dedications to Forrest Goetsch and Katie Brodjieski.
Forrest Goetsch Charities, Inc., and K-tech Charities, Inc., have each dedicated a large amount of money for the initial purchase and training of the Rothschild Police Department’s canines.
The first canine will be sponsored by K-tech Charities, Inc., and will arrive in August of 2021. The K-tech Charities, Inc., canine will be named after Katie, who was a third grader who attended Weston Elementary School. She was a silly girl – fun, loving, always with a smile on her face, who was carefree and very active in sports and with her friends.
Katie played soccer with great enthusiasm and tried out for the Timberwolves soccer team and made it. Katie was the youngest player on the team at that time. Katie was watching the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team play in their first Olympics and told her mother that someday she was going to be on that team.
Katie loved all animals, but none more than dogs. Her family only had one dog, but wherever she went, there was sure to be some pet that she would immediately fall in love with and would want to take home. Her house would have been a zoo if she would have had her way. Her family believes because of her love for animals, she may have become a veterinarian.
Katie had just turned 8 when she passed away from complications due to blastomycosis, a rare fungal disease. Ironically, she died from something that can affect animals (especially dogs), as well as humans. Her love of animals is evident on the back of Katie’s gravestone with all of her favorites. Katie’s family feels like her memory will live on through the area’s new K-9 named Katie to help children better understand what a police dog does, and to not have any fear of this beautiful animal. What a wonderful way to have the community be able to interact and meet this amazing dog - this truly is a special gift.

This canine will be dedicated to our department by Forrest Goetsch Charities, Inc., which was established after the passing of Steve and Paula Goetsch’s son Forrest, in 2009.
Forrest was a 14-year old D.C. Everest student who collapsed and died during warm-ups at cross country practice on September 21, 2009. Forrest had great perseverance, dedication, determination and motivation to succeed in life, school and sports – especially running. Forrest was a young man who touched the hearts of many people in his community. Forrest continues to impact so many people in our community, even though he is no longer with us.
Steve, as well as his family and friends have continued to be role models for many in the community. Steve’s charity has become very recognized and has impacted many people with their returns to the community.
The Rothschild Police Department is always trying to make a positive and professional impact on the community and is proud to be connected with these positive organizations. They have given us the opportunity to purchase single purpose canines which will be used for the tracking of individuals, drug detection, and working with the students in our schools.
The Rothschild Police Department, in dedication to Steve and his family as well as the Forrest Goetsch Charities, Inc., would like to officially name the canine, “Forrest”.

Even though Forrest Goetsch Charities, Inc., along with K-tech Charities, Inc., have provided the funds for the direct purchase of the canines, the Rothschild Police Department will still need to generate money for the health care, food, vehicle and equipment for two K-9 vehicles, as well as additional expenses as they may arise.
The Rothschild Police Department has set a projected amount of $35,000.00 for the future needs of our canines.
