Support for Student Battling Cancer

Growing up in a Hasidic community in a large family with limited financial resources, the idea of attending an Ivy League school was a foreign and almost impossible one for the person that this story is about. Despite these circumstances, she managed to get into one of the top Ivy League Schools in the country and is about to start her junior year in the coming weeks.

At the beginning of the summer at just 26 years old she was diagnosed with an aggressive form  of throat cancer. She underwent surgery about a month ago as well as a round of treatment and will be undergoing another round in October. Thankfully her prognosis is good and she will be able to continue attending school uninterrupted. 

She was fortunate enough to have insurance through the school that covered the thousands of dollars on surgery and chemotherapy, but the co pays and deductibles have left her in a bind. The savings that she relies upon for basic living expenses is almost completely depleted because they were spent on costs associated with treatment, including medication and deductibles. Summertime is when she usually worked to replenish some of those savings but she has been unable to work due to surgery and treatment.

As her friends, we believe that we can make a difference in her life right now by helping her secure the funding that she needs in order to focus on school and getting into remission.
