Cancer Treatment for Trafficking Survivor
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Mary Burke and I'm working to raise money to support cancer treatment for Petua. Petua (pronounced Petra) is a 29 year old Ugandan who survived sex and labor trafficking for three years by the LRA, close to 20 years ago when she was abducted from school in the village where she lived with her family.
I met Petua in 2013 when as a psychologist and professor at Carlow Univrsity, I began collaborating with Ugandan citizens on the issues of gender based violence, trauma and human trafficking. Petua and I met to learn from each other and I quickly saw her strength, intelligence and determination. Petua's goals at the time were to pursue education and to form a group to support other women and girl survivors of trafficking and similar crimes.
In addition to all of the goodness that Petua embodies, her life story is characterized by heartbreak, trauma, love, resilience and courage. And more heartbreak with her recent diagnosis of cancer. Petua has endured more than any single person should ever have to endure.
Please consider donating to her chance to live long enough to enjoy what life has to offer.
