Kristy Ramos aka, "Mom" to her 3 beautiful daughters Ari (Ariyana), Aleina, and Wynter; or “Sunflowers & Scissors” to the adoring hairdressers she's passionately taught around the nation, has recently been diagnosed with an almost Stage 3 aggressive Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. This would be a crushing blow "normal" world, but as a female Black Asian professional hairdresser trying to work in the world of Covid-19 safely over the last year this is even more daunting. Stresses are higher, funds are lower, and the medical bills are already piling even with insurance. If there is anything I know, it's that stress is detrimental to cancer patients. If any ability to serve our girl some love in ANY way it will bring much relief to the days ahead in her recovery and no dollar will go unnoticed. Working in the kind of health she is/will be in will be a process to navigate and impossible at times. Her body and mind will need as much rest as possible for future reserves of strength. Your positive energy as a collective IS her superpower. She's feeling the love and sends a "Care Bear Stare" to all who've already reached out.

Kristy will receive her chemo port Friday, March 26th and begin chemo for 4 months the week of March 29th while simultaneously undergoing radiation to shrink the lymph nodes as much as possible (MRI, CAT, and bone scans are being lined up for more information). If Kristy shows no signs of improvement after chemo and radiation, a mastectomy will be her next option per her medical team. She will disclose information healthiest for her in time via her email and Instagram accounts (@sunflowersandscissors @thirdeyecurleducation) and appreciates all in respecting her taking the time she needs in learning her own new processes while also caring for her self and family. Your words of love, laughter, encouragement, and support are her greatest and most appreciated communication now.

Professionally, Kristy is known as Sunflowers & Scissors and Third Eye Curl Education. She lives in Columbia, South Carolina and has been a professional educator and craft hairdresser over 10yrs. She's especially known for being a pivotal part of the professional natural textured hair movement (*before it was cool*), providing innovative, detailed, textured hair education to the masses and encouraging this education in cosmetology schools for years with her closest peers. She's helped instill new confidence beyond haircuts across the nation, but especially in the black women of her beloved South Carolina she proudly teaches to embrace, care for, and love their natural texture as it naturally comes out of their head. It's been a powerful experience to already witness Kristy's excitement, optimism, and bravery amongst the valid fears in preparing to live her "Okoye" dreams and lean into losing her beloved curls like the baddie warrior she is. We'll be surrounding her from all sides and hope you join us in these months ahead. No question she'll conquer as she flows.

***ATTENTION: Please be aware that Kristy does not have the same abilities at this time that you are used to FOR NOW. Lethargy, brain fog, fatigue, sickness, discomfort, shock to the systems, etc. are here. This is a part of the process. Please be patient if you are a client, salon, have scheduled classes, reach out, etc. Expect that she will get back to you when healthy enough to do so, but please do not be unkind or misunderstand if it takes time. Kristy will not be able to travel now and needs to have as little stress of the world as possible to focus on herself and children for strength. We who love her most support that for her above all else and are SO grateful her medical team caught what they did, when they did. Thank you in advance on behalf of Kristy, her 3 daughters, her beloved grandparents, and loved ones in this time. Your sentiments will never be forgotten.***
