Living with Cancer, quality of life

My name is Stephen Wasylean.  At the age of 44 I was diagnosed with at the time stage 2 colorectal cancer.  The doctor's started me on chemo right away.  After a few treatments and radiation, they scheduled my resection surgery.  The surgeon was able to get the tumor successfully out.  After surgery I continued my chemo treatment to make sure there was nothing lingering in my body.  My last scheduled treatment was scheduled for this past August.  Low and behold they took blood during my last treatment and when the results came back, my tumor markers were way above normal.  My oncologist did a PET scan and my liver lit up like a christmas tree.  Yes it spread to the liver.  My stage 2 now became a stage 4.   I was then sent to a liver specialist to see if surgery was the the next step.  He wanted a CT scan to see how big the tumors were.  They were the size of golf balls and there were to many of them for removal.  So back on chemo I went.  Different regiment because it was discovered that the other chemo did not work at all.  So I was to have four treatments to shrink the tumors to marble size and then have another CT scan to make sure the new chemo was working.  Not only did the chemo not work again, but the tumors actually grew.  Now I am off chemo because my doctor said that it would be pointless and I am now waiting to be placed in a clinical trial.  A week has gone by and not one clinical trial has been offered.  At which point we decided to look at other options.  We found a place that has a 65 to 75% success rate with cancer patients that are in stage 4.  However it is based in Mexico and is quite pricy.  The doctor that we talked to wants to start treatments on me as soon as possible while my overall health can tolerate them.

Unfortunately the treatment in Mexico did not go the way we had planned.  My cancer marker did drop from a 112 to 59.  According to the blood work all my liver functions are normal even for a healthy person.  However my latest CT scam showed something totally different.  Not only did the tumors grow, a seventh one popped up.  Now we are back to square one with clinical trials and a second opinion with Sloan Kittering Institute in New York.

The doctors at Sloan basically told me that there is nothing that they can do for me and sent me home to "live my life" not knowing how long or short it will be.  I am now with an alternative medical clinic to improve my quality of live so that I can at least feel better.
