Dear Family, Friends, and Community~
Here I am again. A loop, a cycle. For a year and a half, I was considered cancer free after chemotherapy and a mastectomy. Then in May 2019, we received devastating news. The cancer is back -- and now it has metastasized. I am considered stage IV, because it is now in my chest wall, lymphs, and liver. My doctors' (there have been several) only recommended treatment is drug therapy with encouragement to live my best life until the cancer finds its way around those. Roger and I are not content to just accept a death sentence.
After careful and extensive research, I now have a team of trusted naturopathic cancer care physicians. They specialize in integrative cancer care with results that have arrested cancer growth in the most dire of circumstances. Unfortunately, these life-enhancing, hopeful, and effective management treatments are not covered by insurance.
The monthly costs for medicines, prescriptions, therapeutic diet equipment and materials, time missed at work, healing therapies, and consults are adding up. We need your generous financial help to carry us down this path for a year of intensive treatment, which we are hopeful will curb the cancer.
Living with this disease for 7 years has brought many different stressors and financial burden. I am currently living with side effects from the drugs and managing my own care. To help make ends meet, I am working part time with young children as a studio art teacher and Rog is working full time for Eugene City Parks.
However, Roger has run out of paid time off - so every appointment he attends with me (and there are many) is a financial hit. Every missed hour is another stressor. We are living paycheck to paycheck, and our wages are not enough to cover the many treatment plans. We have monthly visits at the Cancer Center and I have an upcoming surgery that will put me out of work for a month. This necessary surgery (partially covered by insurance) is also going to cause him to miss more time at work.
Your financial support will help alleviate the financial stressors we face everyday as I fight this cancer for a third time. Your generous donation will bring us peace of mind, so we can fully focus on healing and put our energy towards cancer care.
Please make a donation here or if you would like to send one in the mail, our address is: PO Box 11762, Eugene, OR 97440.
I do not want to be a statistic. I want to live a full, meaningful, healthy life. Your financial support will help Rog and I continue to have the endurance, strength, fortitude, and courage that it takes to live life WITH cancer. We have a solid, well-researched plan and would be so grateful for your support in making this year of intensive treatment happen.
With Love and Gratitude,
Heather and Roger
