Canaan Yohannes leukemia treatment

Donation protected
Andrea and I moved to Ethiopia in 2015 to help develop a Family Medicine residency training program in a country with very few well trained physicians.  Dr. Yohannes Yimer started in early 2016 and has been an inspiration and encouragement to all involved.

His son, Canaan, was treated for leukemia in 2012 and had been "cured".  However, at the end of November his son developed concerning symptoms and now has been found to have recurrent leukemia.  There is no treatment in Ethiopia.  Like almost all Ethiopians, Yohannes and his family have no insurance.  He has stopped his training, hopefully temporarily.  He has gone to South Africa and his son is now being treated at Wits University Hospital.  He needs to raise 1 million rand ($75,000) for treatment.

I don't normally ask friends and family to help.  But without treatment Canaan will die.  I am asking you to donate to help Canaan's treatment.  A generous couple in Johannesburg has already provided free housing.

A generous donor has offered to match donations dollar for dollar up to $10,000.  While your donation is not tax-deductible it may well save Canaan's life.  His treatment began a few days ago on faith there would be funds to continue the treatment.  I know this requires a great deal of trust but we know Yohannes, he is a friend and we know his situation well.
