Camp Tesahe (Tah-say-hee) is a one week summer camp in the beautiful mountains of southern WV. We provide campers ages 7 to 17 the opportunity to experience nature, grow spiritually and socially, and develop a strong sense of self-worth and self-esteem. Our mission is to ensure that for at least one week out of the year, campers are allowed to absolutely be themselves in a nonjudgmental, supportive, and creativity inspired atmosphere. We strive to give campers the opportunity to become "unplugged" from their cell phones, iPods, iPads, and game consoles and provide them with the opportunity to connect with one another and our staff on a more basic level.
Camp Tesahe's largest program is our backpacking program in which groups of 10-12 campers experience true backcountry hiking and camping under the direction of experienced staff. Campers pack in and pack out all of their necessities (food, clothing, tents, etc.) and learn teamwork and self reliance. We also offer campers traditional summer camp activities like arts and crafts, canoeing, horseback riding, and swimming.
We are a GREAT summer camp under the direction of Jenny Mishoe and Patrick and Angie Ross who have a combined 56 years of successful summer camp direction and experience. We, as directors, left our positions at another camp to begin Camp Tesahe in hopes of carrying on traditions that we learned and grew up with at our previous camp. Unfortunately, management decisions brought about broad sweeping changes and a large shift in the mission of that camp, which ran successfully for 49 years. We felt that we could no longer offer campers the very best experiences there, so we've decided to branch out on our own.
A large part of our mission is also to offer this amazing experience to campers who may not be able to afford the cost of attendance, which is approximately $300.00. Not only are we in need of cost of business monies, but we are in desperate need of money to maintain our scholarship fund so that children who are in financial need do not miss the opportunity to experience all that Camp Teshae has to offer. All donations are tax deductible.
