Camp Origins - Autonomy & Play

Hello !
I am an English teacher and I’m asking for support in the funding of Camp Origins. Camp Origins is a 4 day excursion into the philosophy of play. This gathering serves students from low income homes in the inner city; most of whom have been barred from the beauties of nature. These days of play will allow students to cut the cord of technology and reconnect with themselves, nature and the people around them.
During this sojourn we will celebrate the rise of personal expression, imagination, creative emancipation and the right to be child-like. Guided by the principles of "un-schooling" - a practice designed to allow children to pursue their own interests with no imposed curriculum - students will creatively plan their own adventures as well as receive an itinerary of un-classes such as: self guided meditation, quieting your inner narrative, photography & movement, archery, yoga, lasso classes, poetry writing, zine making, star gazing, collaborative cooking and more.
After the last five years of teaching, I have watched schools coercively suck the freedom and liberation from learning. While watching, I have also been a passive participant in the rising levels of depression, anxiety, and isolationism my students face when they step on campus or carry campus home with them. My students are currently balancing economic pressures, systemic racism, neighborhood violence and academic repression - and I deeply want to give them a chance to see something else.
I asked myself; what is the tool I use to escape the environments and narratives that entrap me? The answer was simple.
Playing in Nature.
We will be camping at the historic Sturtevant Camp ground - a four and a half mile hike up into the Santa Anita crest. Far away from wifi signals and the city buzz, we will give these students a chance to decompress, and find their inner freedom.
The camp will be staffed with artists and creators who are all volunteering their time to model the power of locating and illuminating our inner creator, through curiosity and play.
We are looking to raise $2,000 in 5 days !!!
This budget will purchase food for 30 people for four days. Three meals per day, plus snacks and beverages. We also need support in purchasing arts & crafts supplies, first aid supplies, flashlights, notebooks and 30 copies of "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz. All donations are welcomed, from five dollars, to a set with all thirty books.
