Krystie’s Fight Continues

Donation protected
Krystie Gomes is an athletic and loving 11 year old girl who was diagnosed with Osteoscarcoma bone cancer a week ago. In August, she started having pain in her leg and visited the doctor, but they found nothing. She was sent to physical therapy, but the leg pain was not improving, and she was losing weight. Her physical therapist suggested they take Krystie back in to her doctor and have an MRI done. On Thursday, January 23rd, Krystie had an MRI, and on Friday, January 24th, they received the diagnosis of Osteoscarcoma cancer.

As you can imagine, their world has been turned upside down by this horrible diagnosis, but Krystie is still smiling and cheering up everyone around her with her beautiful smile and outgoing friendly nature. She has a tough battle ahead of her, starting today, January 28th, with 12 weeks of chemotherapy treatment, followed by surgery to remove the tumor after chemotherapy is completed. She will have an additional 8 weeks of chemotherapy following her surgery.

Krystie is the youngest of 4 children of Kathy Feder and Kenny Gomes.
Krystie is a Castro Valley native and attends Canyon Middle School as a 6th grader. She is a fierce competitor in club soccer and club volleyball. She played for 4 years with the Castro Valley Soccer Club, and most recently, with AFC, which is a high level competitive soccer club where she plays up in age group. Krystie also plays competitive volleyball for UC Elite.

When Krystie is not on the field or court, she is always singing and dancing and loves to do her hair. To know this vibrant girl is to love her. Krystie always has a smile on her face and a positive attitude.

Kathy is self-employed and owns Dance Co Studio in Hayward, which she has had to temporarily close as they deal with getting Krystie through her diagnosis and treatment. Kathy will continue to be Krystie's main caregiver while she goes through chemotherapy and recovers from surgery.

Kathy and Kenny are long time residents of Castro Valley and have served so many in the Castro Valley community. With four very involved and athletic children, they have touched and been touched by so many loving families within the Castro Valley, Hayward, Bishop O'Dowd and Transfiguration Church communities. We always hear it takes a village, and we are asking that the village come together to help support them as they walk this very difficult road that no child or parent should have to endure.

Unfortunately, insurance will not cover 100% of the cost of Krystie's treatment. Any donation that you are able to make will greatly bless this family.
