Campaign For Quality Inclusive Education For Children with D

Donation protected
BethGold Foundation, registered in September 2023, under the AG chamber ministry of justice with the registration No: 2023/C21573, is based in The Gambia. Our main aim is to ensure the provision of quality inclusive education and promote lifelong learning opportunities and real-world exposure for children with disabilities. We also advocate for the social inclusion of individuals with disabilities. Our vision is to create an inclusive society where people with disabilities are fully integrated and have equal opportunities to succeed.

Children have the right to influence decisions that affect them yet, for those with disabilities, their voices are not given the opportunity to be heard. This is mostly due to prejudice and stigma surrounding disabilities as well as low expectations that children with disabilities can contribute to making decisions to affect their lives. However, many children with disabilities face barriers that affect their ability to participate. They are portrayed as unintelligent or less credible compared to typical children; they have few opportunities to develop their skills and confidence to participate. Most adults working with children with disabilities may not have the appropriate training on inclusive practices. Sometimes the environment can also have literal barriers.

UNICEF estimates that 90% of children with disabilities in the developing world do not go to school. That’s 9 children out of 10. The World Report on Disability estimates that there are one billion people living with disabilities in the world, out of which 10% are children. Children with disabilities are often overlooked in humanitarian action and become even more marginalized as fewer resources are available for them in the midst of a crisis. Most of the time they are not included in education systems.

Children with disabilities are enrolled in school but excluded from learning because the curriculum has not been adapted to their needs. Teachers do not have the capacity or time to make the necessary adaptations, and/or they do not have access to assistive devices necessary for their learning needs.

Education is one of the most effective ways to break the circle of discrimination and poverty that children with disabilities often face. Their access to school is often limited by stigma, lack of understanding of their needs, lack of teacher training, conducive learning environment, classroom support, and learning resources.

It is in view of the above that BethGold Foundation will use the donation to ensure the provision of quality inclusive education, promote lifelong learning opportunities, and real-world exposure for children with disabilities. As well as advocate for the social inclusion of persons with disabilities in all works of life.

We are on a mission to transform the mindset of society by confronting them with their prejudice associated with disabilities.

Our vision is to see a society that never doubts the potentials of Persons with disabilities.
