Liz Luke's Science Superstar Fund!

Donation protected
Want to support the sciences?
Want to lend a hand to a poor graduate student?
Sick of tripping over the piles of extra money lying around your house?
Well, then I've got a fundraiser for you!

I am raising money toward living and moving expenses I will be undertaking as I start a Master's program in Laboratory Sciences in public health at the Wadsworth Center run by the New York State Department of Health in Albany, NY. I will be starting the program in late August, and am trying to raise money for associated living expenses as well as fixing up my car so that I can have a safer commute. Unfortunately, I do not qualify for federal or private aid because the program does not take place at an accredited US academic institution (the Wadsworth Center is granted the authority to confer the Master's degree by the Board of Regents of the NYS department of education, but they themselves are not an academic institution), and aid will only be determined and awarded to students attending qualifying institutions. So any donation will help immensely!!

About Me
I am primarily interested in research involving public health approaches to preventing and managing infectious diseases, particularly vector-borne (ticks, mosquitoes, etc.) and zoonotic disease research. I am also fascinated by the process of vaccine research and development. Through this program, I hope to gain experience in the clinical environment of a public health laboratory, as well as further exploring the fields of infectious disease and immunology with a public health focus.

I'm a recent graduate of the Medical Biotechnology program at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. During the course of this program, I developed theoretical knowledge in multiple subject areas through core classes and completed a biomedical research internship in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology from September 2016-May 2017. I also earned an Associate of Science degree in Mathematics and Science with an Honors minor at SUNY Onondaga Community College after completing this degree program in May 2015. I was in the Honors program and the first group of STEM scholars, receiving the STEM scholarship and membership in the STEM program at SUNY OCC.
