Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking time to read this. If you feel led to bless me as I raise money towards this theological course abroad the vast land of Egypt, you would be helping cover the flight, hotel, the tour guide, food, my deposit, and insurance. I have already covered the fall course, and my books, and I am in the process of getting my passport renewed. The total cost I am raising is $3500.00 for some cushion in case anyone does not come and the price shifts upward. The current total cost we are given to pay is $2865.00 for what I have mentioned above, as the cost is normally $3575.00, but I received a scholarship to cover $708.00 of the total cost. I will be leaving 28DEC2018 and coming back on 11JAN2019.
What we will be doing:
This course introduces the rich religious heritage of Egyptian civilization, from its Pharaonic origins, through centuries of Christian majorities, to its current Islamic identity. By traveling to the Arab Republic of Egypt, we will directly experience Muslim culture as the context in which minority Christian communities practice their faith. Our class will visit numerous Pharaonic, Christian, Muslim, and (historically) Jewish places of worship in the greater Cairo area and in Egypt’s stunning archeological sites at the southern environments of Luxor. We will witness the grandeur of Islamic civilization in Cairo’s medieval mosques and modern monuments. We will discuss the tumultuous history of Jews in Egypt while touring Cairo’s historic Ben Ezra Synagogue. We will examine Christian monasticism in the place of its origin at the Wadi Natrun and in the Greco-Roman history of Alexandria. Site visits to numerous Christian churches, including All Saints Anglican Church (with its Sudanese refugee congregation), will expose us to a diversity of contemporary Christian practices in Egypt.
