Camp I Am Special Fundraiser

Many of you know I have been volunteering for Camp I Am Special for the past few summers. It is a non-profit organization in northeast Florida for those with developmental and intellectual differences. Children, teenagers and adults can spend a week here during the summer and they get to do many fun activities including swimming, fishing, arts and crafts and playing on the playground. In addition to the fun they have, it is also a great time of respite for the parent or caregiver. Campers develop social skills, grow in their independence, and make lifelong friendships. Because this camp is a program for all ages, many look forward to returning each summer. Some adults have been coming since they were a child. For those, it has become a week of summer that they look forward to every year. 

As one can imagine, the cost to attend this camp can be expensive. While the buddies are all high school and college volunteers, it is expensive to run a 24-hour camp program of this magnitude. Like many other programs, Camp I Am Special was cancelled during the summer of 2020; however, they are gearing up for a great 2021 summer program. During this past year, some parents lost their jobs, others had their work hours cut back and still others haven’t had a respite time since the pandemic began. Through this project, it is my hope to raise money to pay for a camper to attend a week of summer camp. Thank you for your consideration in helping me grant an individual a week of summer fun.
