Cameroon Hair Shaving Fundraiser!

Donation protected
Do you want to see Michaela Simoncini shave her long flowing hair to some short buzz cut like Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta?! You are in luck my friends... she will do exactly that, all she is asking is that you take some time and donate some money to Cameroon club for medical supplies!

We will be raising money until Friday, April 18th, the day of the big event!

We hope to raise $2000 for medical supplies with this fundraiser.

**All money raised by this event will be donated to the Cameroon club and will be used to purchase medical supplies. The hair will also be donated, but not to Cameroon :-P to disadvantaged children suffering from long term medical illnesses via Locks of Love!

More information about my trip to Cameroon...

This summer I will be spending a month in Cameroon (Africa) along with six of my classmates from Drexel. We will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Georges Bwelle (a local surgeon and humanitarian leader) along with his team of volunteers who spend every weekend traveling to remote villages throughout the country to provide free health care. Access to healthcare in Cameroon is unfortunately very limited and primarily focused in urban areas. With no medical insurance and a pay-as-you-go system, few citizens are actually able to afford health care. Even government funded vaccinations and medications reach few rural communities due to the lack of transportation infrastructure. Luckily, organizations like Dr. Bwelle's (ASCOVIME) reach out to these communities and help provide the medical support they desperately need.

Upon arriving in the villages, my classmates and I will assist Dr. Bwelle and his group in setting up a makeshift "hospital" to provide personal consultations, prescribe treatments and perform necessary surgeries. This summer alone, we will see over 2,000 patients and not only attempt to treat their current ailments but provide preventive care and education that will endure even after we leave.

**Read more about Dr. Bwelle here, at CNN Heroes of 2013! http://edition.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cnn.heroes/2013.heroes/georges.bwelle.htmland more information about my trip can be found on the "Cameroon" page of http://bushmedicinepartnership.org/cameroon/

In addition to our time and energy, we will be donating medications, surgical supplies, and educational materials to help make all this medical care possible. This is where we need your help. We hope to raise $10,000 to put towards these supplies and contribute to Dr. Bwelle's efforts. Truly, no contribution is too small (or too large)! A donation of just $10 can treat 20 children for parasitic infections and protect them from some of the most disabling diseases in Africa for one whole year! This enables these children to attend school and allows adults to focus on working and providing for their families.
