A Place for Cameron
 
 
 A grass roots effort to create a permanent bronze tribute to Cameron. For more than a decade, Cameron The Capitol Cat quietly became part of Nebraska’s story. Cameron was not elected, did not hold office, and never filibustered the Unicameral, yet Cameron became one of the most recognized and beloved figures at the Nebraska State Capitol. Legislators, state employees, tourists, schoolchildren, photographers, and families all shared the same simple joy of spotting Cameron on the grounds. What made Cameron so special was the way Cameron brought people together. In a place often associated with public business and politics, Cameron gave people a reason to smile, pause, and connect. This grassroots fundraiser was inspired by the extraordinary outpouring of affection following Cameron’s retirement, after longtime guardian Diana McGinnis was forced to move to an assisted living facility. Thousands of people shared memories, photographs, and stories that made it clear just how deeply Cameron was loved. 
 
 
 Now, supporters are working to create a permanent life-sized bronze tribute to Cameron near the grounds of the Nebraska State Capitol so future generations can continue to meet, remember, and celebrate this remarkable cat. The proposed sculpture remains contingent upon approval by the Nebraska Capitol Commission and all applicable state review processes. If approved, funds raised will help cover the cost of the sculpture by acclaimed artist Ben Victor, installation of the sculpture, and continuing maintenance so Cameron’s legacy can endure for years to come. Please help honor Cameron’s memory and the joy Cameron brought to Nebraskans and visitors from around the world. Every contribution and every share will help make this lasting tribute possible. Many people in government are supporting this fundraising effort, but absolutely no public funds or taxes are being used. This tribute is entirely funded by donations and private support.
