Happy New Year! So bright, so promising is 2018... that was until our world came to a crashing halt by one word... CANCER!
On January 3, 2018; we were broadsided by the crushing fact that our 18 year-old son Cameren was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
For many who don't know; our journey started around the end of October. Cameren was going to school, holding down a full time job, and working on his car late into the night. He developed what we thought was a cold. As time passed this cold never quite seemed to go away and had turned into Pneumonia. After treating the Pneumonia he still seemed to have trouble breathing despite feeling better; That's when a follow up doctor visit and an X-ray had led to a CT Scan and an admittance to the hospital. After what felt like a lifetime of tests, procedures, biopsies, and waiting, we had been handed the devestating news. CANCER!
Cameren will begin his fight on January 24th.
As we help our son through these trials we are also counting the costs. Despite being blessed to have insurance; a battle such as this comes with costs not covered by insurance. Costs beyond copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and other out of pocket expenses.
Cameren has supported himself by working full time since he was 16. He pays for many of his own expenses and he is troubled by the simple fact that he is now not working.
The reality is there are many side effects due to the harshness of Chemotherapy and the treatments to come. Our largest upfront expense is one we never rationalized for an 18 year old. Fertility or rather infertility. Cameren is adamant that he wants a family of his own someday. The treatment required to cure this disease will save his life but may steel the opportunity of having children from him. Our desire is that we can give him the very privilege that brought him to us and plan to utilize a fertility clinic to insure it.
We invite you to take this journey with us and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your thoughts, prayers, and support.
