My name is Calvin Lynch, and I’m seeking financial assistance to cover a late tuition fee at Chemeketa Community College. For the past two years, I’ve been paying for college out of pocket, with some support from scholarships and FAFSA. However, as an orphan since the age of 15, I don’t have the option to ask my parents for help.

I’ve been accepted to several universities in Oregon, including OSU, the University of Oregon, Portland State, and Eastern Oregon University. I’ve also maintained honor roll and Dean’s List status for the past two years while working hard to stay on track with my studies. Currently, I’m working full-time, plus overtime, to support myself and my family while balancing my school schedule.

In order to continue my education, I need to pay off a balance of $805 to register for the winter term at Chemeketa. I plan to commit to one of the universities I’ve been accepted to in the spring to pursue my bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity. This is my first time seeking financial assistance, and I’ve already applied for grants and scholarships. Unfortunately, many of those won’t be available until the next school year or after winter term.

I need to complete this winter term to stay on the Dean’s List and continue with my cybersecurity prerequisites. Once I graduate, I hope to work in the field of cybersecurity and eventually continue my education to pursue a master’s degree or create a foundation to support other youth who, like me, lost their parents at a young age.
