Calvin has been an ambassador to the pitbull breed for as long as he has been in my life. He was rescued from a shelter at one year old and has spent the past 11 years living it up and making people smile where ever he goes. Calvin has mentored several foster dogs that we helped to rehabilitate and find forever homes. This guy has developed a fan following over the years due his charismatic nature.
Calvin received a diagnosis of malignant mast cell tumors in the summer of 2018. Calvin was asymptomatic, happy, and active despite it all. He had surgery to remove several masses, a lymph node, and spleen in Oct 2018. I was grateful to qualify for a one time grant to fund that surgery. He recovered well and has been happy and vivacious for the past 6 months since then. Very recently, Calvin began limping and was soon in excruciating pain. After several emergency room visits, a CT scan detected a cancerous lesion and fracture to his left leg. I was given the options of immediate euthanasia or a life saving surgery of amputation. While I know my time may be limited with my baby bear, I am fighting with him to ensure that his final days are spent happy and pain free. I plan to utilize funds raised to pay back the loans for his surgery and fund his chemotherapy treatments and follow up care.
I am planning for this to be Calvin's bucket year and are looking forward to "the summer of BUB" (bubba is one of his nick names) while we help Calvin to celebrate his life instead of mourning the loss of his limb. I may have several months to a year left to help pay it forward to the guy who has changed so many lives. I will be posting updates mostly on his instagram page "Calvibubs".
