Calvin Lai - Medical Needs

Larkies and other musical friends! As you may know, our beloved, amazing friend Calvin Lai had a bad fall during Middle Eastern Night at camp this year and injured his foot terribly (as in, broke it, dislocated it, pulled ligaments, and also broke part of his leg). Many dear hearts worked together to get him safely to the hospital and then home to SF again - the beauty of love in action.

But many more friends will be needed to get him all the way back to health.

As you also may know, Calvin is a fine art painter - a true artist. Without the ability to paint, or do the hustling to sell his paintings, Calvin has severely limited resources to meet the rapidly accumulating medical bills that are piling up, above and beyond what Medi-cal covers. It's inconceivable that someone who has brought us so much joy should be facing such hardship. Even as he was laying on the ground outside of the Camp 3 hall, one of the first things I heard him say, as he shivered under blankets piled on to fend off shock was - "How am I going to pay for this?"

Now, after many trips to several different hospitals and specialists, Calvin's waiting to hear whether or not he'll need surgery, to put a metal pin in his foot, stabilizing it. More medical bills. More time unable to work. It's a tremendously scary time. [UPDATE: The surgery on Monday, Aug. 14 went well. He's now on the mend - keep him in your thoughts!]

So please - for all the times when Calvin's soaring clarinet playing has made your feet and your booty refuse to stop dancing, show your support now. For all the times when his cackling laugh and cockeyed sense of humor has brightened your day, please help him out now. Think of it as a way to "buy a drink" for him, for all those times you wanted to, but couldn't - coz he doesn't drink. What's the going rate for a nice cocktail in your town? Give that amount - buy him a drink, or two! - and it will all add up to help him weather this difficult time.

And if you've never seen his incredible artwork, take a look, and please consider buying one of his pieces. They are absolutely magical. If you want to truly help a real artist continue to make beautiful art, and are looking to add a little beauty to your life as well, this is the perfect win-win action.

Please show your support as soon as you can. We'll keep this GoFundMe open until November 1 if needed - that's right, All Hallows' Day - and will update you as more information becomes available. But time is of the essence.

Thank you, loved ones, so very much.
