Calvin Jurgens

Little Calvin was born last October with laryngomalacia (extra tissue around his vocal cords and trachea) creating sleep apnea which requires continuous home oxygen treatment and medical appointments.
Calvin was transferred right after birth to the NICU in Sanford Fargo Hospital; meanwhile, his Mommy (Maria) had to stay in the hospital where he was born, over an hour away,  for her own recovery. Calvin spent two weeks in the NICU, followed by recurrent trips to Rochester Mayo Clinic for diagnosis, treatment and surgery.
Clavin had surgery to repair his laryngomalacia in January at Mayo, which required more travel for his entire family, but often leaving them apart as Daddy (BP) had to return to work as soon as possible to pay for the increasing costs involved with Calvin’s care.
At the end of January, Calvin had another 5 day stay in Fargo due to RSV, while his big sister and Daddy had to stay home for work and preschool.
Calvin was also born with two small holes in his heart: one has closed and the other was deemed safe to live with. At a recent NICU follow-up cardiology appointment, Calvin was diagnosed with a third hole in his heart which will require close monitoring to ensure it closes, otherwise he will need surgical repair.
Calvin is unable to attend daycare at this time because of his oxygen need; therefore, his  mommy has been unable to work as a nurse as much as she has in the past.  Maria was also medically unable to work for two months prior to his birth due to swelling and high blood pressure.
As if the experience of numerous medical procedures, appointments and trips to Rochester weren’t already enough, the medical bills keep pouring in as Calvin continues to battle various complications thrown his way.
If you’re reading this, I’m sure you already know that both Maria & BP are kind, hard-working people and are always willing to lend a hand. Now, it’s our turn to show them they have our support as they continue on this challenging journey with little Calvin and big sister, Elsie. Calvin’s grandparents, Roger & Kayleen Salo, the late Pat Jurgens & Burt Jurgens also appreciate all the love, prayers and support from everyone during this challenging experience.
