Calpurnia

Donation protected
Calpurnia follows the story of Julie Gordon, a screenwriter from a wealthy Jamaican-Canadian home who goes to extreme lengths to redress To Kill a Mockingbird through the perspective of Calpurnia, the Finch family maid. It is a provocative and satirical look at class, race, and appropriation

Despite receiving funding from the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council, we are still under budget and the show is opening in three weeks. We need these funds as soon as possible. Finding funding for Canadian Theatre is extremely difficult, even more difficult when writing about race, class and privilege.

Your generous support will go towards set building, props and running costs.

8% of your donation will go to The AMY Project (Artists Mentoring Youth). AMY understands that inequity in the performing arts industry is rooted in the inequitable systems that shape society. To learn more about the AMY project, visit: www.theamyproject.com

Recently, in Toronto Life Magazine's Culture section, Calpurnia  has been listed as one of the top five things to see, do, hear and read this month. "Dora Award-winning playwright Audrey Dwyer's new gutsy comedy will leave you cringing in your seat as it fearlessly confronts the racism and inequality festering under the surface of liberal Toronto." - Toronto Life Magazine
