Hi everyone! Long post but please read all of it!
Some of you may know about the dumped/neglected/abused rabbit problem in the Old North End of Burlington VT, but for those who are unfamiliar, some backyard breeders are keeping their rabbits in inhumane conditions and letting them loose to be mangled and die in various horrible ways. A few of us have been trapping, neutering, fostering and rehoming as many as we can. THE HUMANE SOCIETY, POLICE, ANIMAL CONTROL, AND CITY COUNCIL HAVE BEEN CONTACTED MULTIPLE TIMES. They do not care, and will not help. Please do not comment asking me if I’ve tried these options, believe me I have
The good news is some very good boys and girls found new safe homes where they’ll be kept inside and loved. The bad news is we’ve run out of money to continue to get future rescues fixed so they don’t make more homeless bunnies.
The even better news is that you can help! I’m collecting donations to get our current foster bunny, Tomtom, neutered. Any additional funds I raise will go toward future dumped rabbits’ medical care. Green Mountain Animal Defenders have generously offered to contribute $150 towards this surgery, but it’s going to be $500-600, and I’ve already personally spent a few thousand over the last three years, so I can’t make up the difference. I’ve set this fundraiser’s goal to provide $$ for Tomtom’s neuter and three future rabbit neuters.
If you don’t have any money and can’t house a rabbit but love them and still want to help, you can educate yourself on how these smart and sensitive little creatures should be treated here: https://rabbit.org/faq/ and tell everyone in your life that rabbits should live inside, and they deserve love, safety, enrichment and medical care like any other pet.
Thanks so much for reading!
