Callie's Corner

Donation protected
Brittney Bess, Clayton Dowdy and their two young boys were anxiously expecting a healthy baby girl, Callie Rose, to be brought into this world on October 10th, 2017.
On Tuesday September 5th, Brittney felt as if something was wrong, and proceeded to head to the hospital to consult with her doctors. Brittney was then rushed into surgery, where they preformed an emergency c-section to take baby Callie out of the womb. When sweet Callie was pulled out of the womb, she was unresponsive. At the 24 minute mark the doctors were getting ready to call it, but at 25 minutes Callie came back to us.
Callie was then transferred to Children's Mercy, with her daddy and paternal grandparents by her side, while Brittney had to stay and recover at the original hospital with her mother and aunts for that first hectic night.
Callie had contracted a viral infection that most adults are exposed too, but our immune systems are strong enough to fight off. Since sweet Callie was in the womb, and since we had no indication of this virus, it was able to target most of her body. And because Callie was unresponsive for 25 minutes it has been determined that she has suffered some brain damage.
Baby Callie is in the NICU at Children's Mercy in the heart of KC. Callie is right on the corner of her location, hence the name Callie's Corner. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, great aunts and great grandparents have all been stepping in. They have been devoting their time to both hospitals, and now Brittney has been discharged and is able to be with her baby.
As of right now, we are waiting to see if Callie's liver will respond properly to medication. If her liver does not respond, all money raised will go towards hospital bills and after life plans. If Callie's liver does pull through, and if Callie is able to breathe on her own, doctors used the term "severely disabled" to describe the rest of her life. In that case, all money raised will go towards making a functional home for Callie and for medical bills. We understand that not everyone has money in their pockets, but we do know that everyone has a heart and can offer prayers for sweet Callie and her family at this time. Thank you.
