Cali's Surgery Journey

When Cali turned 1, she had gotten an ear infection which turned out to be complex mastoiditis. She underwent many major surgeries because the bacteria moved quickly, including to the lining of her brain. They removed the mastoid bone because the infection had destroyed it. Luckily they caught the infection quick enough so it did not spread furthermore (so we thought).
Cali is now 5 years old and started grade one! As she's been growing, her jaw has been slowly closing. When she had her original infection in her ear, they did not realize the infection also was in her jaw bone. When they gave her the antibioctics it cleared the exterior infection but her jaw bone healed onto her temporal bone of her skull which is making her unable to open her mouth as she grows.
In November 2016 she had a scan showing she could open her mouth 6mm, now as she has grown she can only open her mouth 2.5mm which is making it very difficult to eat, brush her teeth, talk, ect. If they dont continue with the surgery, Cali will eventually be restricted from opening her mouth.
She will now be undergoing 1 out of 2 surgeries to start her facial reconstruction surgery with a total estimated time of 6-8 weeks for each surgery, so 16 weeks in total of healing time.
Her mother, Jessica, is a single mother living on her own who just recently graduated her first year of college. She has had to put off continuing her second year and has stopped working her two jobs due to Cali's medical needs. Cali has also had to stop continuing grade 1 for the time being.
