Calico-san's Vet Bills

My name is Katie, and I'm a cat lover living near St. Louis, MO. I currently have four cats residing with me - a 13 year old black cat named Omi, a 7 year old Russian Blue named Phantom, an 18 month old calico named Rio, and an 8 month old black kitten named Aya.
On December 2, I noticed a cute little calico cat sitting on the steps outside one of the apartments in my complex. Earlier in the year, I had seen a cute calico cat sitting on the deck rail for the nearby apartment, so I assumed it was the same cat that just got outside.
When the cat was still out after I came home from class at 9:30 pm, knowing the temperature would soon drop below freezing, I tentatively knocked on the door of their apartment. The lady who answered acted very casual, explaining how this little girl was "crazy" and "she gets out all the time." Even after I handed her the poor, cold kitten, she just let her jump out of her arms. But, the cat was inside, so that was what mattered.
The next day, my roomie and I saw the poor thing outside again, but when we returned home, she was gone. I assumed they had let her back in that day. However, the next morning on my way to work, after scraping ice from my windshield, my heart sank - She was there, sitting outside.
I made the decision that I would take her in and give her care if she were still there after work, and sure enough, she was there, looking cold and dejected. She walked right up to me, let me pet and pick her up, and seemed genuinely happy to be with people who would feed and take care of her.
After the weekend, I took her to the vet. She had been cycling between periods of extreme affection and times where she would hide, hissing/spitting at anyone who tried to pet her. She also developed diarrhea. I knew something was wrong, so I figured this was the best course of action.
After an exam, it was discovered she was running a fever, and she seemed to be in quite a bit of pain. After a hard fight, the vet was able to give her pain medication and antibiotics, as well as took a stool sample to check for worms and blood to run an FIV/Feline Leukemia test. We are still waiting on the stool sample results, but the other tests were negative.
The vet figures that something might have bitten her, but was unable to find a clear puncture wound. In the meantime, she's back at home, receiving a course of pain meds and antibiotics, as well as getting plenty of rest, love, and attention. We were also able to determine she is approximately 6 months old - too young to be going through such a hard time. We know now she wasn't the cat we saw this spring. Our assumption is that cat had kittens, and the owners didn't want them - hence the heartbreaking situation.
I don't expect help with this, but wanted to start a gofundme page in case anyone out there wanted to contribute to her care. The cost I have currently only includes her vet and medication bills. I am a part time student working full time, but my room mate was laid off earlier this year, so money is tight around our household. Any extra money will go towards food and other supplies until we can get her healthy!
If you can find it in your heart to help a poor kitten out, she (and I!) would be forever grateful. As a cat lover, I can't stand to see any animal suffer, and I want to stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves.
