Cali Nightmare goes to Nationals!

Hi everyone! I am fundraising to take a team of 50-60 Northern California high school girls to the Girls Folkstyle National Championship. These young women train exceptionally hard in a traditionally male dominated sport. They face headwinds from backward thinking coaches, administrators and, sometimes, even parents. Most of them have been training and competing for years in the most difficult sport in the world. This tournament represents one of the pinnacles of competition.
The official team California trip is very competitive and costs $1000 per athlete, and will only take 20-30 athletes on a VERY selective basis. We are trying to democratize access to these elite national level tournaments, so we are taking the girls there for $600. Many of these girls come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and the $600 ask is even too high. I will be personally backstopping the cost at that level to make it possible for as many athletes to make the trip. All of our coaches are top of their field woman wrestlers and are Senior World and National Team members!
Every dollar donated goes into our scholarship fund to help those athletes whose financial situation would otherwise deny them access to this elite national championship tournament. Our team slogan this year is “Ohana. Wrestling means family. Family means nobody gets left behind … or forgotten.” Many of these girls were left behind in previous years due to lack of funding. Any funding we receive in excess of our costs will be rolled into the next three national level tournaments.
