As an expression of our commitment to offer "practice and training of all kinds, welcoming all" Calgary Soto Zen has signed a one year lease on a space we will use as our new zendo (meditation hall). After 10 years, the overhead and cost of operating the residential Little Tea Temple was no longer sustainable. Our new space is non-residential and so the costs need to be met by members of our Sangha and by supportive members of the community at large.
Here are the costs for the year:
$400 X 12 months = $4800 (rent)
$20 X 12 = $240 (GST on rent)
$500 = Insurance (liability and contents)
$400= estimate for furniture and fixtures
GoFundMe charges an 8% service fee on the total of any funds collected. To offset this expense, we have included that fee in our fundraising total.
Total= $6400
As these are new expenses for us, and our finances are down significantly since we closed Little Tea Temple in October, we have decided to more actively raise funds. We are grateful for your support!
