Covid19 Un arcobaleno di solidarietà per Calcutta

Avevo sentito parlare della ONG “Calcutta Rescue” e quindi lo scorso dicembre ho deciso di cercare i loro uffici per offrire il mio aiuto Li trovo in una stretta strada polverosa nel caos di Calcutta. Salgo le scale di una palazzina e mi si aprono le porte di un mondo di passione, .compassione ed amore per il prossimo, una ONG formata da un gruppo di care persone ( medici, infermieri, volontari) che si prendono cura dei poveri tra i più poveri, persone che veramente non hanno niente se non lo stesso nostro diritto di vivere.
 
CR gestisce 2 scuole (educano, nutrono e curano 650 bambini),  4 cliniche ( assistono 17.000 poveri), un' ambulanza itinerante e portano avanti anche un progetto di artigianato che ha lo scopo di reinserire quei poveri che diversamente avrebbero difficoltà a trovare lavoro. Tutto questo è offerto gratuitamente agli abitanti degli slums...quelli peggiori... quelli di coloro che vivono nell’immondizia o lungo i binari creando “case” con dei sacchi neri. Oltre a curare i mali dei loro fisici martoriati, donano dignità agli adulti ed una speranza ai bambini.

Dopo aver passato un paio di giorni con loro, la commozione ha subito lasciato il posto ad una forte ammirazione, rispetto ed empatia verso queste persone. In questo momento tragico per tutto il mondo loro vivono una emergenza nella emergenza di tutti i giorni. Le persone che assistono vivono alla giornata, di una corsa in rick shaw o di elemosina e quindi adesso a causa del lockdown per il Covid 19 non riescono ad assicurarsi  neppure quelle poche rupie che gli permettono di sopravvivere. Lo staff di CR continua a lavorare facendo quello che può con i pochi fondi a loro disposizione in quei luoghi dove il distanziamento sociale è impossibile, le norme igieniche inesistenti e dove manca tutto, da sempre.

COVID 19 - A rainbow of solidarity for Kolkata

I had always heard about the ONG named CALCUTTA RESCUE so last December I decided to go to their offices to offer them my help. I found them in a narrow and dusty street in the chaotic Kolkata. I climbed the stairs of a small building and in front of me there are the doors of a world of passion, compassion and love for the neighbor where dear people ( doctors, nurses volunteers) take care of the poorest among the poor, people who really do not have anything else but our same right to live.
 
CR manage 2 schools (provide 650 children with education, food and health care), 4 clinics (catering to 17.000 underprivileged population), a travelling ambulance and carry on an articraft articraft project meant to rehabilitate the distressed people who otherwise would find it difficult to get work in the mainstreams.

Everything is free of charge for those who life in the slums...the worste ones...slum settlements in the trash or along the railway tracks leaving in houses built with black sacks. Besides taking care of those tormented bodies, they also donate dignity to the adults and hope to the children.
 
After having spent a few days with them, emotion was replaced by admiration, respect and empathy towards the staff of CR. In this tragic moment for the whole world, they and their patients live an emergency in the emergency situation they face everyday. The people they take care of, leave on a daily wage earned maybe with a rickshaw ride or begging but owing to lockdown for Covid 19, now they cannot even earn those few rupees which allow them to survive.
 
CR staff keep on working hard with the few funds they have, doing their utmost  in those places where social distance is impossible, the sanitary situation is a disaster and really everything is missing.
 
Let’s help them to keep alive that swarm of people who smile and hope in the future, despite everything
