Caitlyn was involved in an accident on May 20, 2017 while in Chrystal Beach, Tx. She was at a gas station putting items in a cooler in the back of her friends jeep when another vehicle pulled into the gas station and hit her from behind, pinning her between the two vehicles. The impact was so hard that it forced her friends jeep over a parking block, up three steps and partially through a store front. She was life flighted to UTMB (University of Texas Medical Branch) in Galveston,Tx and has been there since. She sustained massive injuries including a crushed pelvis and all the veins and arteries to her legs were severed. She has undergone 12 surgeries to date to try to reconstruct the blood vessels and her pelvis, wound vac cleanings and exchanges, a tracheotomy, and an above the knee leg amputation. She will need more surgeries as Drs will need to remove the rest of her leg and part of her pelvis. Medical insurance has denied to cover costs to fly her 1500 miles home to be with her family and friends. Because of her condition, she will need to be flown by a medically equipped helicopter. The cost for this (through charity companies) ranges at $12,000 -$14,000 and up. She will need to be in a long term care facility and go through extensive therapy and rehabilitation. She was a 20 year old that was outgoing, happy, friendly, caring, and giving. A good girl, working 2 jobs, going to college for nursing and trying to train to become a Marine. This incident changed all that. She spent her 21st birthday in the hospital. She is suffering from PTSD, depression and anxiety as well as losing morale to keep fighting on top of the injuries she has. She needs to get back home to be with her brother, her mom and the rest of her family and friends that love her and can help care for and support her. The money raised will be used to get her home and to help with the medical bills and the care she will need stemming from this incident.
