Caitlin's First Bike

Caitlin is a miracle, a baby girl born much too early and not expected to live. She survived birth and arrived in this world alive and breathing. She soon after survived a fatty tissue tumor which caused a level 4 bleed on her brain, leaving her with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy as well as many other obstacles to overcome throughout her life, including seizures and blindness.

Until recently, she was fortunate enough to spend every day of her life with her wonderful loving parents.  In July of 2013, her Mom passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly at a very young age. Caitlin now spends her days with her Dad as they do their best to keep each other going, and to carry on with everyday life, doing their best to get out and LIVE life. Caitlin loves to be outdoors with nature, feeling the wind, listening to the birds and breathing in deep breaths of fresh air.

Because of her physical inability to ride a regular bike, Caitlin has never had a bike before and she would really love to have one! We finally found a local company who can custom craft a bike that will fit her disability needs. Caitlin got to go for a test ride to see how she would like it and she LOVED IT!

A bike will get her out of the house and out of her wheelchair, and it's an excellent way for her to be outside and to feel the wind in her hair and get some fresh air... but that's just a bonus. The best reason is that riding a bike is an excellent form of therapy, which is necessary everyday to exercise her legs, since she cannot physically walk.
