Help Feed Stepping Stone´s Family

Hello! We are Tom, Hannah, Vanessa and Belen, four young leaders of the social enterprise world. Together we have created Café Stepping Stone in Cartagena, Colombia and have been running it for the last 3 years to what it is today. But we need your help!!!

For those who don’t know, Café Stepping Stone is a social enterprise café that prioritises social impact over profit. We provides holistic training including basic economics, nutrition, sex education, leadership, English lessons, soft skills, environmental care, life planning and more to disadvantaged youth in Cartagena. Through paid practical employment and weekly training sessions we aim to give our team the skills and confidence they need to gain future formal employment and provide for themselves and their families. To date we have employed 40 people which has impacted more than 240 people.

What we need: Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we have had to close our doors for the foreseeable future. We are worried about our staff and their families! Each team member supports an average of 6 people (more than 100 people). With our savings from the high season we have been able to supply each staff member with 2 to 3 weeks of food and will be paying their full salary until the end of March. However,  the future of Café Stepping Stone is uncertain due to the collapse of the tourism industry but what we are certain about is helping our family we have created here in Cartagena. 

If you would like to support us and our staff, all donations from today, the 27th of March 2020, will be go straight to our employees and their families, and ex-employees who are now also out of work to make sure they can make it through this tough time.

Here is what your money can do:

      $10 = meals for a family of four for one day

      $50 = meals for a family of four for one week

      $400 =  subsidise monthly wages for an employee

Hola a todos!
Ya llevamos abiertos durante dos años y medio y estamos muy agradecidos con todos aquellos quienes nos habéis ayudado bien con donaciones o simplemente viniendo al Café y compartiendo un café o comida con nosotros. Empezamos con 5 empleados y ya hemos empleado a 40 jóvenes!

Desafortunadamente, debido a las consecuencias negativas del Covid19 hemos tenido que cerrar las puertas del café durante un periodo indeterminado.

Lo que más nos preocupa son nuestros 18 empleados y aquellos familiares a los que ellos mantienen con su salario, en total forman un grupo de 100 personas. Estamos haciendo lo mejor que podemos para asegurar que tendrán suficiente comida y dinero para los próximos 2 meses.

Si alguna vez han tenido un restaurante sabrán que los márgenes no son muy amplios, especialmente, cuando nuestra política social hace que nuestro presupuesto sea mucho más elevado de lo habitual.
