A home for amba

Before Café Amba was born, we had already come across what felt like the right space for our vision—a place where we could express ourselves fully and explore our ideas around food, hospitality, and connection.

Community is a word used often, but at its core lies something very simple: a human longing to feel connected.

This is exactly what we find so beautiful about hospitality. It is not the food or the drinks alone that inspire us, but the quiet and meaningful moments of connection that arise when people gather, share a space, and sit together at a table.

We first viewed this potential home for our ideas back in March 2025, and we fell in love with it immediately. The restaurant that stands there today has been running for 29 years under the same ownership—something we find very special in itself.

Throughout 2025, we stayed in touch with the current owners and we have waited patiently for the right moment for them to be ready to move forward with the sale of their business.

This pause gave us the space to test our ideas and to allow the fuller concept of Café Amba to grow and reveal itself.

During our time at Hof de Plezance, we had the opportunity to connect with the local community in a very particular way. These experiences inspired us to evolve our ideas into something we believe can become a unique addition to the city—rooted in our core motivation of connection.

This time also allowed us to raise part of the required capital and gave us the confidence that we have something of value to offer Brugge.

Investment alternatives

With part of the investment secured, we are now exploring ways to raise the remaining funds needed to take over the business, renovate the space, and realise the concept in its entirety.

In the coming period, we will begin talks again to finalise the takeover. Speaking with a bank is one of the paths we are exploring. Alongside this, we have also opened a GoFundMe campaign—an invitation for anyone who feels moved to help us realise the project.
