Cade Gurney's Bucket List Fund

Cade, a caring friend, brother and son who is loved and adored by so many, was diagnosed with an especially rare form of cancer called sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma with a positive YAP1-KMT2A fusion. This is an extremely aggressive form of soft tissue cancer with no known cure.

Timeline:

In 2018, Cade went to see a doctor after noticing a lump behind his knee. The doctor assured him it was a cyst and that everything was okay. After years of battling through unexplainable pain, Cade mentioned to his physical therapist that the lump had grown and was causing discomfort while performing daily tasks. His PT sent him to a specialist to get the lump checked out again. After seeing multiple doctors, he finally had the lump biopsied and the results came back benign. The doctors wanted to wait six months before removing the lump, but Cade insisted that they remove it right away. In 2021, the lump was removed and the pathology showed low-grade cancer. Just a few months later, the scans showed that the tumor had returned and was significantly more aggressive. The cancer began to metastasize to his lymph nodes. Cade is now facing a stage 4 terminal illness.

At this present moment, there are no effective treatment plans, and there is little understanding on how to tackle it. Cade, family and friends remain vigilant as Cade has gone through two cycles of chemotherapy. Cade has since shifted his treatment plan to immunotherapy. These treatments can at times come with intense and painful side effects, but Cade takes these challenges head on.

We have watched Cade learn about this disease and make responsible and sound medical decisions. In the face of adversity, Cade remains positive and persistent through this tough journey.
