Ultra Caballo Blanco Caballitos

Donation protected
Each year during the first week of March, runners and adventurers from all over the world descend into the small municipality of Urique in the Barrancas del Cobre, Mexico, to celebrate life, friendship, culture and the running heritage of the Raramuri people. The week festivities cumulate in the Ultra Caballo Blanco, an Ultra Marathon event founded on a message of Peace and Love by Micah True to introduce the world to the beautiful people and lands of the Copper Canyons.

One of the highlights of the weekend is the Carrera Los Caballitos where over 800 young runners from all over the region participate in races of varying distances which are grouped by age. It’s a wonderful experience that allows the next generation of runners to also experience the joy of running together and sharing a day of fun and festivities.

Experiencing this day with these young athletes is a wonderful thing. Running with them, putting a medal around their neck, passing out donations, eating cake, laughing with the clowns, and watching all the smiles and laughter while everyone discovers the benefits the running lifestyle is as good as it gets.

We hope you can join us this year and be a part of the event, as your presence would be the best donation the kids could receive. However, if you cannot make the journey this year, you can still help support these kids and the Caballitos event in a couple of ways. The tradition started by our friend Patrick Sweeney of sharing a personal race medal with the kids was a huge hit. We want to keep that going. While the logistics of mailing and then subsequent transportation is a challenge, we will happily accept any medal you have to share. We will post details on how we can best collect medal donations soon – but keep an eye out for collection opportunities at upcoming ultra events.

Lastly, and the reason for this GoFundMe project, we would greatly appreciate any monetary support you can share. Every year, Mas Locos and longtime supportive companies sponsor donations, race and school shirts, parties, entertainment, and whatever we can to help make a super fun weekend that the kids really look forward to. This year things are a bit more challenging and it would be great to do something special. We have some great ideas (solar flashlights, photo booths, etc), but require some help to make it happen. If you can help, please do, your Korima is appreciated and 100% of all contributions go to help support these young athletes of the Copper Canyons. Thanks most kindly.
