Some of you know my son Forrest and have been through the ups and downs of his heart transplant. Yesterday afternoon sherry went to see him and he was unable to open the door. Once Sherry was able to get into the room she found him semi responsive on the floor. MFD quickly arrived and he was transported to Methodist Germantown. It was determined that he had suffered an occlusive stroke. He was flown to Methodist Central and emergency surgery was performed to remove the clot early this morning. He had a complete blockage of the carotid artery on the left side and during surgery they found the artery had dissected. Doctors believe they got all of the clot but he suffered a moderate amount of ischemia to the frontal lobe. He has no control of movement on his right side but does localize pain on that side. He is struggling with speech and cognitive reasoning. He needs all the prayers he can get, please keep him in your thoughts. Doctors believe his outlook is promising but recovery will be long. My sincerest gratitude to Paramedic/Firefighter Q. Hampton and the Memphis Fire department for their fast response and making a very tragic situation more bearable for my wife in my absence.
