In Loving Memory of Francisca M. Torres
Heaven received a new Angel last night. My mother passed away at 6:45pm, 1/1/2015.
The Dr.'s and even my family were certain she wasn't going to make it past 3 days after being removed from the ventilator on Dec. 18th, and nearly 14 days later, she stood strong. She wanted to spend her final Christmas and New Years with the family, and we dearly cherished those moments with her. At the cross of midnight for Christmas and New Year’s, we were there with her saying prayers and with heavy hearts, enjoying our final moments with her.
Though at least one family member was with her every minute of the day, she took the opportunity to rest when she was alone. My sister had left for about 20 minutes while my older brother, Arnel was on his way to relieve her. Our thought process was we did not want her to rest alone. But I think what she really wanted was to be by herself when the time came. We are grateful to at least have the opportunity say our final good bye during her time at the Hospice.
Our viewing will be held on Monday and I am setting up all of the Funeral details at this very moment. Her wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes sent to the Philippines where she was born.
Born on March 9, 1946.
My mother was a wonderful woman; in 1999 she suffered a stroke which leads her to be partially paralyzed from her right side. She eventually was forced to be in a wheel chair and since struggled with her mobility and daily needs. It was tough growing up through my childhood, I grew up really fast in helping and assisting her at a very young age.
My brother, Randy, who has a mild condition of down syndrome and autism along with my older brother, Arnel and sister, Mariliza, has been so helpful during the family transition of adjusting our own situations to accommodate my mother’s needs in order to balance a productive lifestyle for her.
As the years go by, my mother has battled through a plethora of health issues; strokes, diabetes, heart surgery, and dialysis three times a week.
It was tough,very tough.
Her health issues often kept her home in bed or in the hospital. She would try to keep a good mood enlighten of her situation, she never wanted anyone of us to worry about her or get stressed out.
Her joy was to listen and watch Filipino shows. To ease her lifestyle we bought her a touchscreen computer so she can look for Filipino recipes on YouTube with a touch of a finger--cooking was one of her favorite hobbies. She was a boxing and basketball fanatic and adored watching Manny Pacquiao fight as she would cheer on during his matches.
Her laugh would always put a smile to our faces, because we knew that’s the least we can do-- is to make her happy.
My mother had a heart of gold, always willing to give, give and give. She was so kind and so humble. She was a shy, quiet and very caring person. She was a true dreamer. She puts a great deal of emphasis on her family, whether it is her own intuition, her emotions, or the world of spirituality and religion.
She was everything to our family and she has raised us to be respectful, humble and understanding.
We thank her a lot from the bottom of our hearts.
She was PERFECT in so many ways, we LOVE you Mom.
