Help kids from Central Falls go to Washington!

You can help young leaders from Central Falls change the world!

We are the students and teachers of "How to Change the World" - an after school Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) in Central Falls, RI. We are raising funds to help our class travel to Washington, DC.

For the last two years, students and chaperones have gone to Washington, DC as a part of the course on How to Change the World. During previous trips, we met with our Rhode Island Senators Whitehouse and Reed, as well as Congressman Cicilline. We toured the White House and the Supreme Court. We learned how to lobby, conducted simulations at the U.S. Department of State and the Federal Reserve, and visited many national monuments across our Capital.

We want to do it again this year...and we need your help to pay for our transportation down to DC!

The goal for our course on “How to Change the World” is simple and bold: we help kids from Central Falls figure out how they want to change the world, and give them skills they need to do it within America's democracy.

Our city in Rhode Island takes up one square mile and has over 20,000 inhabitants, representing 103 countries. Many are immigrants; most live below the poverty line; and all of them are part of one of the most close-knit, resilient, driven, and vulnerable communities in the state.

These young leaders' interests are diverse so our site visits in DC will be, too. They're curious about everything from robotics to politics to immigration to education, so they’ll design field trips in DC that align with their passions. Students will stay near DC with host families in Arlington, VA. They're going to participate in a beautiful cultural exchange between two communities.

Our aim is to take all the lessons we learn from the DC trip and apply them in our local community. Back home, we have tackled some incredible projects over the last two years: we registered more than 100 new voters. We helped launch the first participatory budgeting program in Central Falls history. We hosted a City Council candidate showcase and right now, we are organizing a community forum about our city's detention center.

This has all been made possible because of generous donors like you. So, please help us change the world!
